James Hargest College junior campus year 8 pupils celebrate after the school’s graduation ceremony in Invercargill yesterday.

About 270 took part in the ceremony with parents, caregivers and teachers watching on as they were presented with certificates for achievements during the year.

The assembly was followed by a formal social in the evening to mark the end of the pupils’ time at the school’s junior campus.

Pupils who move on to the senior campus, will take part in a Ka Hikitea (Step Up) march along Layard St on February 1 next year.

The march, in which pupils are accompanied by bagpipers, takes place from the junior campus to the senior campus. It began in 2008 and symbolises the progression of the pupils’ education.
