Three of the 16 categories in the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence were won by Southland venues this week.
Hospitality NZ chief executive Bruce Robertson said judges observed the winning entries were increas-ingly reviving "old school" practices.
The supreme winner was Wellington's Rydges. Southern winners were: Best new or redeveloped bar and restaurant, The Thom-as Green Public House and Dining Room, Gore; Best environmental, sust-ainable and ethical practice, Fiordland Lodge, Te Anau; Best cafe, The Batch, Invercargill.
