Trio charged after pet goat shot

Three teenagers are facing charges after a pet goat was shot and killed in Southland last month.

Police said today they had charged three Riverton teens in relation to two shooting incidents in the Rowallan area on July 17.

Early that day, police received reports that a group of young men in a ute had shot a pet goat and an outhouse at a remote hut.

The incident followed an earlier one in which a group matching that description had fired shots near another hut, scaring the occupants.

Police yesterday searched three Riverton addresses, finding firearms and making the arrests.

The trio have been charged with serious firearms offences and will appear in the Invercargill District Court next week.
