Winter makes unexpected appearance in Invercargill

Drivers had to negotiate a thick layer of hail-stones on Invercargill streets after a short, sharp hail-storm hit the city today.

The storm, which happened about 1.45pm, lasted about 15 minutes but was heavy enough to leave a wintry covering.

Southland Express reporter Saelyn Guyton said the storm arrived with no warning after a calm morning.
