Woman to face court over false robbery claim

A woman who claimed to have been the victim of an armed robbery in Invercargill in November will appear in court after an inquiry showed her claims to be false.

The 25-year-old woman told police a man produced a weapon and stole money from her while she was talking on her phone in her car, about 2.25pm on November 18.

She said she had just left a car park after withdrawing the money from the Glengarry Westpac ATM when she received a call and pulled over to answer it.

She said this was when the man robbed her.

Police investigating the alleged robbery today said they had established that the incident did not take place.

The woman has been summoned to appear in the Invercargill District Court for making a false statement to police.
