The Civil Aviation Authority is making inquiries after a helicopter crash near Lake Hāwea on Tuesday which injured the pilot and passenger.
A spokesman for Maritime New Zealand’s Rescue Co-ordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ) said an aircraft emergency location alert was received.
"RCCNZ contacted the helicopter operator, who advised that the helicopter had experienced a hard landing, injuring both the pilot and passenger."
They directed the Queenstown Rescue Helicopter to the location which transported the two injured people to Dunedin Hospital for treatment.
The spokesman said no further information was available.
A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said yesterday it had been notified of the crash and confirmed there were no fatalities.
"We’ve sent two investigators to Wānaka to attend the accident site to make initial inquiries.
"Over the coming days we will work to establish what happened and decide if any further action might be required."
A police spokesman said they became aware of the incident about 3.30pm, but did not attend the incident.
