Call for public feedback on cycle network

Cycle lanes in Anderson and Aubrey Rds in Wanaka are another step closer to being set in concrete, with the Queenstown Lakes District Council calling for community feedback on its proposed cycle network.

Council general manager property and infrastructure Peter Hansby said the proposal for Anderson Rd was for a separate 3m-wide, asphalt shared path on the eastern side of the road, linking to State Highway 84 (Wanaka-Luggate Highway) and to Aubrey Rd.

A separate 3m-wide asphalt shared path is proposed for the northern side of Aubrey Rd, linking to the proposed Anderson Rd cycleway and extending through to the Gunn Rd roundabout, he said.

Active Transport spokesman Simon Telfer welcomed the development.

He said the protected cycle way "will provide a very important cross-town link between the Northlake and Hikuwai communities and facilities at Three Parks''.

"Very few people currently bike along Anderson Rd as it is so dangerous,'' he said.

The plans for each proposal can be viewed online at
letstalk.qldc.govt.nz or at the Wanaka Council office or Recreation Centre.

The council is also hosting two drop-in sessions from noon-1.30pm and 5pm-6.30pm on September 4 at the Wanaka Hotel for anyone interested in discussing the proposals.

The closing date for feedback is September 19.
