Camping ground’s new facilities trucked in, lifted into place

New showers, new toilets, new paraplegic facilities, a new laundry and a new dining room all arrived at the Glendhu Bay Camping Ground on the back of three trucks early yesterday.

Among the spectators as the buildings are lifted into place are camp managers Phil and Pene Hunt. The $700,000 consignment consisted of three upgraded former Christchurch school buildings to replace some old camp buildings.

Lessee Rudi Saunders said the new facilities would be ready for use in a few weeks and would be a valuable addition ahead of the winter ski season.

Construction of replacements for eight old cabins is also under way.
