Hāwea Flat School is making it rain golf balls to help raise funds for their swimming pool.

For the second time Friends of Hāwea School have brought back their inventive fundraiser in hopes of raising over $20,000 for the school pool.

The much-anticipated "Cloudy with a chance of Golf Balls" event is set to launch this term, promising excitement, community spirit, and the chance to win prizes.

Wānaka Helicopters have donated both the helicopter and the pilot, ready to drop a golf ball for every ticket the school sells.

They are expecting thousands of numbered golf balls to be dropped above a farm near the school and the ball that falls closest to the pins wins a cash prize.

The school has three cash prizes ranging from $1000 to $250 as well as 10 spot prizes.

It was a community effort with more than a dozen sponsors coming together to support the cause including Fresh Choice Hāwea, Cardrona Hotel, Wānaka Toy & Transport Museum and Hāwea Golf Club.

Friends of Hāwea Flat School member Amy Carroll highlighted the importance of upgrading the school, saying it was a facility open to the whole community.

Being on the school grounds and close to the bike park, the pool was a space for locals to enjoy during the summer.

The school is hard at work preparing for the drop set for October 17 with each of the 400 students having five tickets to sell.
