Wanaka Wastebusters reuse manager Matthew Smith said the past two weeks had been very busy for the centre as a whole, but in particular for its shop.
''It's not as busy as the supermarket but at times in the past week we have had times when the place is packed.''
Mr Smith did not know the exact amount the shop had made in the past two weeks but he thought it was busier than at the corresponding time last year.
It had been so busy on one day a queue had formed for the till, which was a rare occurrence, he said.
The two-week period after Christmas Day was always the shop's busiest time, he said.
Usually three staff would be enough to handle the workload in the shop but at times up to six have been needed to cope with the flow of people shopping in the past two weeks, he said.
The busiest period was now over but Mr Smith expected it to be reasonably busy until the end of the month.
Shop manager Mathilde Fonteneau said clothing and books were the shop's most popular items.
Before the holiday period there were about 30 banana boxes full of books which were all sold before the start of this week.
Many of the books and other items would eventually end up back on the shop's shelves.
''We are like a rental shop in that way.''
In a way, the shop was becoming another one of the town's tourist attractions, Ms Fonteneau said, with a smile.
