A paraglider was critically injured in a crash near Mount Iron at Wānaka earlier this week.
A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said emergency services were notified at 1.27pm on Monday of an incident near the Wanaka- Luggate Highway (State Highway 6).
"One ambulance and one helicopter responded to the scene," she said.
Ambulance staff treated the patient in a critical condition and they were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital.
The Central App reports the victim was thought to be a US tourist, and that the accident was one of several that prompted helicopter callouts in Central Otago and the Queenstown Lakes District at the beginning of the week.
