Power is out north of Lake Hawea after high winds brought branches down on lines this morning.
Aurora spokeswoman Karen Melville confirmed power was lost north of the township and in Makarora around 6.45am.
She said crews were working to clear the branches.
Power would be restored as soon it was safe to do so, she said.
