Aspiring musicians, singers, songwriters and technicians will  converge on Wanaka next weekend for the third Yami Sounz Summit.

More than 150 participants are expected to take part in the two-day summit on May 13 and 14 at the Lake Wanaka Centre with tutors and speakers coming from all areas of the music industry and from all over the country to attend.

Former student and now tutor Martine Harding said the summit was the brainchild of Lynne Christie and Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated, a non-profit group which returns all profits to music education.

"It’s a unique event, there’s nothing like it anywhere else in New Zealand, where anyone interested in any aspect of the music industry can spend a weekend with some of the best in the music industry and  improve their skills," Miss Harding said.

Massey University music student Connor Moore (19), of Wanaka, has attended the previous two Yami  summits and will be coming to Wanaka for the third.

"It’s definitely part of the reason why I ended up studying music. The Yami summits are incredibly inspiring and it’s a great way for me to network in the music industry," she said.

Tutor and founding member of the Wellington band Black Seeds Barnaby Weir will also be back for a third time as a tutor.

"The summit is a real gem for Wanaka.  It’s educational, it’s fun and it’s a great way to nurture emerging New Zealand musical talent," he said.

Summit participants will have the opportunity to showcase their original songs and sing along with Wellington band Pacific Heights and Auckland band Yoko Zuna on the Saturday night and with Hall of Fame inductee Moana Maniapoto and King Kapisi on the Sunday night.
