The national ice skating championships began at the Dunedin Ice Stadium yesterday. The competition continues until Sunday.

The event, now in its 80th year, has attracted 132 skaters from all over the country and Australia. Seventeen skaters from Dunedin  are competing across various grades. The event also features syncronised skating.
