George (15), who was competing at the South Island secondary schools championships, won the girls under-16 100m in 12.35sec and the 200m in 25.70sec. Both efforts broke the old record.
It has been a good summer for George, who won bronze medals in the junior girls 100m and 200m at the New Zealand secondary schools championships in Hamilton in December and a gold medal in the 4 x 100m relay.
She won another relay gold medal at the New Zealand track and field championships in Auckland last month.
Oli Chignell (John McGlashan) won the boys under-16 3000m in a record-breaking time of 8min 59.51sec in a nail-biting finish.
It was his first South Island title.
Chignell, who is coached by Dave Stinson, is known for his aggressive front-running tactics,But on Saturday he bided his time and made his bid later than usual and went to the front only in the final lap.
Halfway down the back straight he led by 4m from Angus Bailey (Burnside).
However, the Canterbury runner fought back and took the lead with 175m left and it was a classic battle after that.
Chignell grabbed the lead back in the last few strides to the tape. Bailey finished in 8min 59.66sec as both runners broke the old record.
Anna Grimaldi (Bayfield) took 5sec off the record in the AWD F47 100m with her time of 14.34sec. James Sandilands (Roncalli College) broke the senior boys 110m hurdles record that Peter Cox (Otago Boys') had held since 2001.
His winning time was 13.84sec. Cox's time was 13.92sec.
