Scores of parents lined the streets of Wanaka yesterday to cheer on their children taking on the Puzzling World Junior Challenge triathlon.

Clear blue skies and light winds greeted the 1000-plus primary school children from around the Upper Clutha region who took part.

Years 1-3 pupils participated in a bike and run duathlon, while the years 4-6 pupils competed in a full triathlon.

Competitors came from Wanaka Primary School, Holy Family Catholic School and Hawea Flat School.
