St Kevin's, Kavanagh to fore

Otago schools St Kevin's College and Kavanagh College were to the fore in regional tournaments which finished at the weekend.

Teams from around the country were seeking qualification for the national championships in Palmerston North next month.

At the boys A South Island tournament for smaller schools in Greymouth, St Kevin's College won with a commanding 85-61 win over Catholic Cathedral School, of Christchurch.

Kavanagh College finished fifth which also qualified it.

In the girls A tournament, also in Greymouth, Kavanagh College beat Buller High 57-42 in the final to qualify for the national tournament.

At the AA boys tournament, Otago Boys's High School faced tough opposition but qualifed fifth and go to the national tournament. Middleton Grange won the tournament.

Otago Girls' High School made it to the final of the AA South Island tournament, losing 77-45 to Christchurch Girls' High School, but qualifying for the national tournament.
