A bowler gets a gold star after winning five centre titles, and a bar is added for each five titles after that. Scott now has seven bars.
The first title was special for Scott. It came in 1976 in the open fours in a team skipped by Kerry Clark, now chief executive of Bowls New Zealand.
''The competition was tough in those days and I was at the ground level trying to break into the top Dunedin teams,'' Scott recalled.
''I had to fight off bowlers like Gordon Jolly, Bill Cousins, Kevin Darling, Stewart and Duncan McConnell.''
Scott (59), the greenkeeper-manager at the North East Valley club, won his fifth title with the same team in the open fours in 1979 and he skipped the open fours team for his 10th title and the first bar to his gold star in 1984.
Scott is the best fours skip in Dunedin bowls since the late Bill Cousins dominated the role for the Taieri club and the Dunedin sevens team.
''I'm proud of the results I've achieved as a fours skip,'' Scott said.
''I love the teamwork involved.''
Scott was a long-term Bowls Dunedin fours skip and holds the winning record of nine New Zealand intercentre titles.
His 20th title was in the open pairs with his brother, Jim, in 1996, and the 25th was in the presidents' fours in 1998.
His 30th title was in the open pairs with Jim in 2003, and his 35th title in the open fours this year.
It was special for Scott when he won his 20th title and took over the mantle from Stewart McConnell (Kaikorai) as the holder of most Bowls Dunedin centre titles.
That status was held for more than 20 years by North East Valley great E.H. (Life) Ravenwood, who won 17 centre titles. It was beaten by Gordon Jolly (Leith) in 1979.
Nineteen of Scott's 35 titles have been won in fours. He has never won a champion of champions singles title or a champion triples.
His tally could be better because he has been runner-up 23 times.
Scott grew up in Cromwell and had roll-ups on the green from a young age. He started serious bowls at the age of 15 when he was a pupil at St Kevin's College.
His game was given a boost when he joined Clark's four in 1975 and he was in the team that won the national title in 1977.
''I was given the opportunity to play with good players. I have tried to do that myself and bring young players through.''
Young players in Scott's team when he won his 35th title were Andy McLean and Mitchell Will.
