Scott had a 21-9 win over Samoa's Hans Gabriel in the first round and backed it up with a 21-7 win in the second round against Melvin Tan (Singapore).
Scott went into the championships after finishing sixth in the world champion of champions singles.
He beat top players from England, Norfolk Island, Spain and Portugal and at one time had a chance of capturing the gold medal.
Scott made his mark on the national scene when he won the New Zealand singles title in Dunedin this year. He is now doing it in the international arena.
The star-studded New Zealand women's pair of world ranked No 1 Jo Edwards and No 3 Val Smith received a setback in the first round when beaten by Australia's Natasha van Eldk and Karen Murphy 17-14.
The women's triples of Leanne Curry, Genevieve Baildon and Jan Khan beat Canada 14-7.
The men's four had a bye in the first round.
