Taieri has caught up with other bowling clubs in Dunedin and will be an amalgamated club when the season is officially opened on Saturday.
Bowls New Zealand amalgamated men's and women's bowls in 1996 and most clubs have followed suit over the last 15 years.
The Taieri club finally decided to amalgamate this year with the majority of members casting a positive vote at a special combined meeting in June.
The club celebrated its 125th anniversary last March. The men's club was formed in 1886 and the women's club in 1939.
Taieri is the largest club in Otago and Southland and hosted the New Zealand championships last season.
Taieri will have a full playing membership of more than 150 and social and associate members will take the total to over 200 next season.
It employs Robert Gibson as the fulltime green keeper-manager. North East Valley is the only other Dunedin club to have a fulltime greenkeeper-manager.
Outgoing women's president Jan Barclay believes the changes will be gradual but necessary to unite the club and help embrace the new image of bowls in which coloured clothing and coloured bowls are popular.
Outgoing men's president Jack van Ward believes amalgamation is vital to the survival and growth of the club.
