South Africa holds 191 run lead at stumps

South Africa has ground its ways to 224 for six when bad light ended play early on day four of its test against New Zealand in Dunedin.

The Proteas lead by 191 runs but a potentially exciting finish appears unlikely with rain forecast for the next two days.

Earlier New Zealand put down two catches and used up both reviews in the opening session.

The Proteas were 100 for two at lunch and lead by 67 runs.

The home side has picked up the wicket of Hashim Amla for 24, but JP Duminy and Dean Elgar could have easily perished as well.

Tom Latham put down a  simple catch at first slip when Duminy was on six, and Elgar survived a much tougher opportunity on 35. Wicketkeeper BJ Watling dived to his left but could not hold on to it.

Earlier today Hashim Amla flicked a short delivery from Neil Wagner to Tim Southee at mid-wicket on 24. Shortly after his dismissal, the players left the field due to bad light after just 20 minutes of action. The Proteas have added one run to their overnight score and are 39 for two.

Play in the first test between New Zealand and Australia in Dunedin got under way at the later time of 11.28am due to a ground delay.

South Africa resumed on 38 for one with a lead of five runs with two days remaining.
