September cannot come quickly enough.

That is when Wellington left-hander and Black Cap-in-waiting Devon Conway will become eligible to play for the New Zealand.

The South African-born top order player joined an elite club yesterday.

The 28-year-old turned his double century into a record-breaking triple century and in doing so became just the eighth player to score a triple century in New Zealand.

He joins the likes of Bert Sutcliffe, Brendon McCullum and England run-machine Wally Hammond to reach the chunky milestone.

He was unbeaten on 327 from 352 balls when Wellington declared its first innings closed at 525 for seven at the Basin Reserve.

Conway's knock was the highest score by a Wellington player and a ground record.

His haul of 53 boundaries was a New Zealand first-class record as well.

In reply, Canterbury is 207 for five at stumps on day two. Black Caps opener Tom Latham is undefeated on 102.

Day one of Otago's match against Auckland at the University Oval never got under way. A damp outfield and yet more rain was the culprit.

In the other game, Central Districts is 304 for five at stumps on day one of its match against Northern Districts at the Bay Oval in Mt Maunganui.

George Worker scored 130 against an attack featuring Black Caps Trent Boult and Neil Wagner.

It was his ninth first-class hundred.
