Otago is in the domestic twenty/20 final and could yet get a free pass to host the game if the rain continues around the country.
The Volts shared the points with Northern yesterday after their game in Mt Maunganui was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Both other games, Canterbury-Auckland in Christchurch and Wellington-Central in Wellington, were also abandoned before the first over because of heavy rain.
The no-result leaves both Otago and Auckland on 22 points ahead of their juicy final-round clash at Eden Park tomorrow, with Canterbury third on 18.
The top two teams qualify to a straight final. Wellington (14), Central (6) and Northern (2) are all out of the running.
Otago has a massive advantage in net run rate - 1.681 to Auckland's 0.285 and Canterbury's -0.132 - so it could actually afford to lose to Auckland and still qualify for the final even if Canterbury beats Central tomorrow.
In that scenario, Auckland would qualify top on 26 points, both Otago and Canterbury would have 22 and Otago would almost certainly get into the final on its hefty run rate.
If Otago beats Auckland, the final will be held at the University Oval on March 1.
If the game is rained out, Otago will still earn hosting rights thanks to its superior net run rate.
