Albion won the one-day competition with a convincing 71-run win over Green Island in what was a virtual final at Sunnyvale.

Albion 269/9 beat Green Island 198 at Sunnyvale

Both sides had five wins and a draw going into the last round, but in the winner-take-all match it was Albion which seized the initiative.

PJ Cairns (74) and Nathan King (48) put on 145 for the third wicket to help guide their side through to 269 for nine.

The pair batted sensibly and took advantage of some poor bowling. The Green Island attack offered up far too many extras, bowling 23 wides and 14 no-balls.

Russell Ritchie was the pick of the bowlers, with three for 35 from 10 overs, and Jeremy Scott got through his 10 overs for just 40 runs. Dion Lobb got walloped, his 10 overs going for 76 runs.

Shaun Haig chipped in with 22 at the top and Mark Craig (23) and Ollie Newton (22) also added valuable runs.

Green Island made a reasonable start to its reply, getting through to 41 before Hamish Rutherford was undone on 29.

Fellow opener Scott Simpson went on to score 55 and Eric Standfield top-scored with an undefeated 61. Standfield's innings added some respectability to the score.

Albion medium-pacer Jeremy Medlin got rid of dangermen Jordan Sheed for four and Mark Joyce for nine, and finished with four for 27 from six overs.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 211 beat University-Grange 171 at Tonga Park.

Carisbrook-Dunedin completed its up-and-down one-day season with a 40-run win over University-Grange.

The win means Carisbrook-Dunedin finishes in third place and will join Albion and Green Island in the southern regional knockout tournament.

Player-coach Tony McEntyre scored 49 and Kieran Eathorne made 42 not out to help Carisbrook-Dunedin post 211. Just about everyone else in the batting line-up got a start.

Ben McCormack took three for 35 and Will Somerville kept the run-rate in check, taking one for 21 from 10 overs.

Anthony Bullick got collared, going for 64 from his 10 overs, but he did bowl Sean Eathorne to get some reward.

University-Grange all-rounder Sam Wells batted well, posting an undefeated 73. He looked to be steering his side to victory but ran out of partners.

McCormack scored 23 and Somerville offered some resistance with 17 in the middle order. But some accurate bowling from Paul Hoffman (two for 21 from eight) and Andrew Bevins (three for 26 from eight) put paid to the chase.

Taieri 167 lost to Kaikorai 168/6 at Brooklands

Kaikorai got away with bowling a staggering 29 wides to defeat Taieri by four wickets at Brooklands.

Charlie Hendry took three for 31 and scored 41 at the top of the innings in an outstanding individual effort.

Will Deerness (two for 20) and Sumukh Paranjpe (three for 27) combined to knock over the top four batsmen and Colin Aitken also bowled well, picking up two wickets as Taieri capitulated for 167.

Jarrad Waldron top-scored with 36 and shared a 47-run partnership with Hayden Anderson (12).

Tim Clydesdales showed promise, getting through to 25 before he was caught and bowled by Aitken.

Hendry polished off the tail, then anchored the chase. He combined with Geordie Scott to put on a 54-run stand for the second wicket.

Ross Barnett played nicely for his 39 runs and Aitken completed a good day with 27.

Taieri used nine bowlers in an attempt to defend its modest total. Jason Jones was the best of them, with one for 11 from five overs.

Pelichet Bay 171 lost to North East Valley at Logan Park

North East Valley had to wait for its last one-day game before posting its first win, a seven-wicket victory over Pelichet Bay.

Both teams had struggled to match the leading club sides and were fighting for the minor placings.

Simon Badger removed Bay openers Leighton Morgan (13) and Jonathan Homer (8) cheaply and Anthony Wilkinson ripped through the lower middle-order, taking four for 33 from 10 overs.

Jamie Murley also bowled well to finish with two for 11 from 7.1 overs.

Daniel Ford was the best of the Bay batsmen, with 35, and Robbie Smith made 30.

Gary Paine whacked nine fours and a six in his innings of 54 to help Valley reach the target with seven wickets and 18 overs spare. He had good support from Ollie Allen, who remained undefeated on 47.
