So we won't.
But he has certainly given Otago a shock.
The 19-year-old left-arm opening bowler took three quick wickets yesterday afternoon to claim his maiden first-class five-wicket bag.
His haul of five for 53 from 17 overs has left Otago in a precarious position in its quest to secure first-innings points.
Amazingly, Boult is making his debut for Northern after having already played a first-class fixture for New Zealand A earlier this year.
But the youngster is not letting the success go to his head and gave measured responses when asked how it felt to claim a "five-for".
"It has been a good day but I don't have much to say, really," he said.
"I just wanted to keep to my game plan and hit my areas, and I got the rewards for it."
Boult bowled with good pace and generally struck a good line.
On a pitch which was not offering much assistance for the quicks, his efforts were worthy of praise, Northern captain James Marshall said.
"It is a fantastic start," Marshall said.
"He's got some talent there and is a little bit like [Black Cap] Tim Southee, an unknown who comes on the scene and fits into first-class cricket very easily.
"I don't know how far away he is from making the next step, but I think a couple of years of working at this level will help him out a lot."
