Cricket: Four from Otago in preliminary squad

Four Otago players have been named in a 30-strong preliminary squad for the ICC women's world twenty/20 competition in England in June.

All-rounders Suzie Bates and Sarah Tsukigawa, and wicketkeeper batsman Katey Martin are no strangers to the national side.

The trio were part of the White Ferns squad which lost to England by four wickets in the final of the women's world cup in Sydney last month.

But Otago leg spin bowler Emma Campbell joins her team-mates in the side.

Campell was the leading wicket-taker in State League with 24 scalps at an average of 9.50.

White Ferns coach Gary Stead said the final team of 14 players would be selected from the preliminary squad, and would be announced in early May.

"We're fortunate to have the core of our squad from the ICC women's world cup available, although Haidee Tiffen [retired]will be missed."

"It's also good to see players coming into contention after good performances in this season's State League twenty/20 competition," he added.
