Green Island 96 for four by six wickets

Wily veteran Dion Lobb took seven for 42 to help Green Island smash Carisbrook-Dunedin in the final of the Declaration Cup.

Lobb captured his 700th wicket for the Green Island senior side last month and the 35-year-old was in top form again in the weekend.

He combined with Blair Soper to help dismiss Carisbrook-Dunedin for just 93.

Soper removed the dangerous Ryan Duffy for nine and the in-form Sean Eathorne for 22. Russell Ritchie also chipped in with a wicket but Lobb did the rest.

He has taken 20 wickets in the Declaration Cup at a quite remarkable average of 8.6. Ant Harris anchored the chase with an undefeated 40 from 62 deliveries. Chris Ware did his best to make Green Island’s win as uncomfortable as possible, with four for 29 from 10 overs.

But the visitors overhauled the target in the 25th over with six wickets to spare.

The game did not count towards the Bing Harris Trophy, so Carisbrook-Dunedin and Green Island share top place with 128 points apiece.

 

Kaikorai 190 lost to
NEV 191 for nine by one wicket

There was drama at Bishopscourt when North East Valley secured a tense one-wicket victory in the play-off for third and fourth.

Kaikorai posted a challenging 190, thanks to a fine innings of 93 by Geordie Scott.

He blasted 15 fours and two sixes during 72-ball stay at the crease. The bowlers had been dominating up until that point.

Otago-contracted pace bowler Michael Rae took four for 67 and Bailey Andrews-Kennedy took five for 70.

Scott had played pretty much a lone hand but it was not going to be enough.

Valley’s chase began well, with Will Kindley and Anthony Wilkinson (9) adding 50 for the first wicket. Kindley did all the scoring and his knock of 60 got the visitors ahead of the game.

Tom Griffin picked up where Kindley left off, adding 55 from 71 deliveries. His dismissal opened an end for Kaikorai and the chase got the wobbles.

Three quick wickets fell, leaving the last pair of Jamie Murley and Florian Schmidt to get the final two runs.Kaikorai spinner Hamish Robertson picked up his third five-wicket bag in the Declaration Cup with five for 51 to finish the campaign with 23 at 11.22.

 

Albion 207 beat
Taieri 179 by 28 runs

Albion opener Taylor Cumberland rediscovered his touch with an undefeated century to help his side beat Taieri by 28 runs in the playoff for fifth and sixth.

Cumberland scored 109 from 162 deliveries to help his side post 207. In-form Daniel  provided  support with 55 from 46 deliveries. The pair combined in a stand of 75 for the fifth wicket. Otago seamer Jack Hunter dropped on to a good line and length and claimed four for 30 from 16.1 overs. He was the pick of the Taieri bowlers but Riley Dixon had a memorable day, picking up three wickets. However, his effort with the bat which proved more threatening.

Taieri had slumped to 115 for nine but Dixon had not given up. He swatted six fours and three sixes in a daring 44-ball cameo which realised 53 runs.

Logan Smart held his nerve at the other end with nine not out from 33 balls as the pair put on 64.

Otago all-rounder Sam Wells eventually accounted for Dixon.He took two for 19 from 6.4 overs in his return match from a groin strain.
