Veteran Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor has made history in Dunedin today, becoming New Zealand's leading one-day international run-scorer.

Taylor went past Stephen Fleming while the home side were batting first in the third ODI against Bangladesh at the University of Otago Oval.

Taylor (34) started his innings with 7957 ODI career runs from 217 matches at an average of 48.22, needing a further 51 runs to overtake Fleming.

Fleming score 8007 ODI runs from 279 matches at an average of 32.41.

Taylor brought up the milestone with a single to fine leg off off spinner Mehidy Hasan.

He was out soon after, caught by Mahmudullah off the bowling of Rubel Hossain for 69.

Fleming and Taylor are the only Kiwis to have reached the 8000 run mark.

Nathan Astle (7090), Martin Guptill (6440) and Brendon McCullum (6083) round out the top five.
