Carisbrook-Dunedin all-rounder Richard Sillars blazed a century and claimed a wicket to help his side roll Albion by 131 runs at Tonga Park on Saturday.
Sillars, who was the club player of the year last season, posted an undefeated 104 from 96 deliveries to help his side reach 266 for five.
He clouted six sixes and three fours and had wonderful support from Otago opener Camden Hawkins (74). The pair added 92 for the fourth wicket.
Back-up Volts keeper Max Chu also chipped in with 43.
Angus McKenzie was the best of the Albion bowlers, with one for 21 from seven frugal overs, while Otago spinner Mark Craig nabbed a couple of wickets.
Craig top-scored during a disappointing chase. He batted at No5 and made 31, while Josh Cuttance was the next best with 22 not out.
Albion could only muster 135 in reply. Off spinner Jack Pryde took three, and seamer Kurt Johnston was good value for his two for 18.
North East Valley 345 for seven beat University-Grange 125
Llew Johnson blasted 12 sixes on his way to 141 in a lopsided game at Tonga Park.
The North East Valley opener was in a brutal mood and his big hundred helped his side post a formidable 345 for seven.
University-Grange folded for a miserable 125 in reply. It lost by more than 200 runs, and not for the first time this season.
Fellow Valley opener Will Kindley was in good touch as well. He whacked 62 from 67 deliveries in an opening stand of 185.
Venkat Kotte was the pick of the University-Grange bowlers with three for 54 and he top-scored with 50 for his side.
But the chase was pretty dismal. Blair Donaldson took five for 29 and Hunter Kindley claimed three for 35 to wrap up the massive win.
Green Island 165 beat Kaikorai 72
Kasey Short took three wickets from four balls to help Green Island secure a 93-run win at Sunnyvale.
Kaikorai was set a paltry 166 for victory and was labouring at 65 for six.
The visitors were still in the game if they could manufacture a partnership of some note, but a run out and a tremendous spell from Short made the end arrive rapidly.
Three consecutive wickets fell in the 29th over.
Charles Hendry was run out for six and then Short struck.
He bowled Ness Scully for a golden duck and Mason James was trapped in front from the next ball.
Short returned for the 31st over and needed just one delivery to wrap it up. This time it was Vinay Chandrappa who got his pads in the way and was given out lbw.
Short finished with four for seven from 4.1 overs.
The result was really disappointing for Kaikorai’s James, who took six for 38 to help bowl out Green Island cheaply.
