The Fifa Under-20 World Cup is just around the corner. What do we know about the four teams being hosted in Dunedin? In part two of our series, Hayden Meikle profiles Serbia.

The country

If all you know about Serbia is that it is the home of tennis superstar Novak Djokovic, you are forgiven.

But there is much more to it than that.

From Lonely Planet: ''Serbia is warm, welcoming and a hell of a lot of fun.''

Serbia has only been a sovereign republic since 2006, before which it was Serbia and Montenegro, before which it was part of Yugoslavia, before which ... well, space is limited.

It's a mountainous, landlocked country, bordering Hungary to the north, Romania and Bulgaria to the east, Macedonia to the south, and Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro to the west.

Belgrade is a vibrant capital city. Serbia is one of the biggest global suppliers of raspberries.

And, er, it's got Novak Djokovic.

Football history

Very impressive, if we include Yugoslavia, which Serbia was a part of before ... well, space is limited.

And both Fifa and Uefa consider Serbia to be the ''direct successor'' to Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia has a great football history - third at the first World Cup and fourth in 1962, and two Olympic silver medals.

Serbia, on its own, qualified for the 2010 World Cup, and upset Germany in pool play.

Great players

Loads and loads. Modern stars include Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and former Manchester United rock Nemanja Vidic.

Predrag Mijatovic and Sinisa Mihajlovic are great names from the recent past.

Previous tournaments

Serbia is making its Under-20 World Cup debut as an independent nation. As Yugoslavia, it won the title in Chile in 1987.

These kids

Midfield star Nemanja Maksimovic was in the Serbian team that won the European under-19 title in 2013, and he was captain last year.

Goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic is a penalty-stopping king, and Mijat Gacinovic is a talented attacking player.

At the back, defenders Srdan Babic and Vukasin Jovanovic were both named in the tournament team at the European championships.
