The Wellington Phoenix has added another midfielder to their A-League football squad after securing Adrian Caceres for the remainder of the season.
Argentina-born Caceres, 27, was this week released by mutual consent from the final year of his two-year contract with the Central Coast Mariners.
He will join the Phoenix on Wednesday and could be in the mix to play for his new team against Adelaide United on Friday night in Wellington subject to final medical and fitness tests.
Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said today the club werethrilled to have Caceres.
"Adrian's a very attack-minded player. To make the playoffs we need to add depth to the squad and Adrian, who has a championship-winning pedigree with Melbourne Victory, will add attacking flair to the team."
Caceres was instrumental in leading Melbourne Victory to the A-League title in 2006/07 and enjoyed two big seasons with the club.
He was snapped up by the Mariners for the 2008/09 season when he played 22 games and scored two goals. But after not being picked to play for the Mariners in the first four games of the 2009/10 campaign, Caceres sought -- and was granted -- an early out.
Born in Buenos Aires, Caceres previously played for Perth in the National Football League and Southampton, Brentford, Hull City, Yeovil, Aldershot and Wycombe Wanderers in England.
The Phoenix will be hoping Caceres will add a much-needed attacking dimension to a midfield that has yet to take any of the four games that they have played by the scruff of the neck.
Heading into this week's round, the Phoenix are joint seventh in the standings with just four points from four matches.
