Golf: McKinnon tucked in behind leaders in England

New Zealand golfer Elizabeth McKinnon made a bold start at the England Open today.

McKinnon shot an opening round of three-under-par 69 to be sixth equal, one shot behind a group of five players.

Her round was boosted by a hole in one at the 128m par-three fifth hole and included four birdies, which were offset by three bogeys.

The lead in the 165,000 euro ($NZ348,840) tournament was shared by Britain's Melissa Reid and Natalie Claire Booth, Sweden's Emma Zackrisson, Joanne Mills, of Australia, and Margherita Rigon, of Italy.

Two other New Zealanders in the field, Sarah Nicholson and Lynn Brooky, were in a tie for 52nd place after posting matching 74s.
