John Molyneux has been appointed manager of the Otago Golf Club and will take over from Evan Robb on March 1.
Molyneux (49) has a wealth of managerial experience both in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom. He won the position from 22 other applicants, with a short list of five.
''I am looking forward to coming south as my wife, Judith, is the daughter of Ian and Shirley Farquhar and has been brought up in Dunedin,'' he said.
Molyneux is a keen golfer, playing off a handicap index of 10.2, and is a member of the Remuera Golf Club in Auckland.
''I am mad about the game and can't get enough of it but I also like cricket, running marathons, swimming and hiking in the outdoors,'' he said.
''I have run several half-marathons and want to step up to a full marathon which I hope to do in Dunedin next year.''
Molyneux was born in the United Kingdom and educated in Reading before leaving school to become a laboratory technician in a brewery. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1993 and started work as the regional sales manager of Tech Pacific, a large IT distribution company.
He was based in Wellington and then Auckland before returning to the UK taking up the role of general manager software for Sphinx CST.
In 2005, he became the Hewlett Packard vendor manager, a role he held for two years before returning to Auckland in 2007.
For the last six years, Molyneux has been the general manager of Corporate Consumables, a company dealing with office supplies and an information technology reseller.
''I feel very lucky to get this opportunity working with the sport I love and I can't wait until I get down there in March,'' he said.
