Otago Blue beat Otago Gold by a convincing 5.5 to 0.5 games at Balmacewen on Saturday to take a resounding lead in the Metropolitan senior A men's pennant series.
The win puts the ''Balmacewen Bombers'' in an almost unassailable position with the maximum 18 points from six outings with a game tally of 30 wins and one half.
The team is well on the way for a home final, while St Clair looks likely to finish second, leaving a dog fight between Otago Gold, Taieri and Chisholm Park for the vacant semifinal berth.
The scheduled match between St Clair and Chisholm Park has been deferred until next Sunday as most of the St Clair team-members are in Australia on their annual golfing jaunt, while Taieri had the bye.
Otago Blue's top trio were all close to par but low scoring was not easy as putting on the winter greens was difficult.
Nick Borren took the honours in the clash of the No 1 players, beating Chris Timms on the 18th green. James Anstiss accounted for Otago Gold's captain John McIntee at No 2, while, at No 3, Brandon Hodgson beat Murray Edgar with three holes to spare.
Daniel Elder continued his winning form at the expense of former Wanaka golfer Dylan Stock. Luke Murdoch (No 6) gave the Bombers their fifth win, beating Cameron Ryder on the 15th green.
University student Jodin Johnson was the only Gold golfer to make his mark, securing a half with Jason Hughes.
