Golf: An up by six shots in age-group event

Sam An (Titirangi) is in a commanding position in the New Zealand Under-17 championship after adding a one-under-par 71 to Wednesday's 67 on the Omokoroa course in Tauranga yesterday.

An holds a six-shot lead over Jarrod Freeman (Australia) and Cameron Jones (North Shore), with Compton Pikari (Te Awamutu) one shot further back.

The cut to make the final round was 158, with only two Otago golfers remaining in the field. But Kayne Wardell (Allan Grange) on 154 and Thomas Facer (Otago) on 157 have not shown their best form in the first two rounds.
