New Zealand golfer David Smail had a big payday yesterday when he took away more than $170,000 for a second-place tie in the Nippon Series Cup golf tournament.
Smail closed with 4-under 66 to finish the tournament with a 10-under total of 270, two behind tournament winner Jeev Milkha Singh of India, at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club.
He tied with Japan's Taichi Teshima and Australia's Brendan Jones, to win 8.68 million yen ($NZ177,974).
Smail now heads for Sydney to compete in the Australian Open this week.
