McGlashan wins title

The John McGlashan College golf team  beat Wakatipu High by one shot in the Otago intercollegiate final played over 18 holes in North Otago yesterday.

McGlashan will now go forward to the national schools’ final which will be played in Hawke’s Bay on August 28.

The win also gives the four boys automatic entry to the New Zealand Under-19 championship which will follow on from the schools’ final in Hastings.

It is the first time a team from McGlashan has won the Otago title since the inauguration of the tournament in 1981.

Kyle Clark led the way with 79, supported by Robbie Perry with 81 and Callum White with 82.

For Wakatipu, Callum Judkins led the way with 78, supported by the brother and sister team of Daniel and Josh Bailey.

Otago Boys’ High School finished third on 246, while King’s High School came in fourth.

The three leading under-16 golfers will go forward to the national Eagles individual event during the first week of October.

Annabel Evans (Otago) took the girls’ place, while Robbie Perry, with 81, was the best of the younger boys.

Callum White will also compete in the national final but he had to win a playoff against Hayden Robertson (Taieri) and Joseph Hancock Otago Boys’, posting a birdie on the deciding hole.
