But the former New Zealand Open champion is now looking to lend a hand to the sport which helped him get around the world.
He will manage the Otago junior men's team at a junior tournament in Cambridge next week.
``I just want to put a little hand back into Otago golf,'' Pearce said in describing the move to manage the Otago team at the junior interprovincial tournament in Cambridge next week.
Pearce (42) has a wealth of experience to bring to the under-19 and under-16 sextets which will compete against Canterbury and all of the North Island provinces on the Waikato course next week.
Pearce has already put his time back into Otago golf as a member of the selection trio with Jason Hughes and Craig Palmer.
Pearce was the most recent New Zealander to win the national open - he was successful at Middlemore in Auckland in 2003 - until Michael Hendry won in Arrowtown early last year.
Pearce spent a considerable time as a professional and had a purple patch after winning the Open.
He picked up a a good pay cheque after coming third in the Jacob Creek Open in Adelaide three weeks later.
Pearce has put his professional career on hold and, with a young family, works at Telfer Electrical in Dunedin.
He has no intention of relinquishing his professional status as he has an eye to competing in senior events when he turns 50.
He cut back his commitments to professional golf at the end of 2014.
