Kavanagh College pupil Sam Beck (17) goes through a warm-up drill at the Edgar Centre yesterday.

He was one of many who attended a sports coaching day at the Edgar Centre yesterday.

The pupils may still be at school but that does not mean they cannot be coaches.

The Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association organised a coaching day at the Edgar Centre which taught pupils the fundamentals of coaching. Many pupils, along with playing sport, also want to coach it and a few basics were taught at the coaching day yesterday. There were more than 80 pupils at the event as the winter codes start eyeing up the start of the season.
