Motorsport: Paddon at academy

New Zealand's dominant rally driver Hayden Paddon will be a busy man next week, when he visits the 2011 Elite Motorsport Academy in Dunedin.

The current joint leader of the 2011 FIA Production World Rally Championship will visit the city on July 8, as part of the Motorsport New Zealand President's High Performance Scholarship he received along with co-driver John Kennard and fellow drivers Richie Stanaway and Mitch Evans.

Paddon and Kennard have been in hot form for Subaru so far this season, winning their class in the Rally of Portugal and the Rally of Argentina.

Last month they also won eight stages over two days to became the first New Zealand pair to win the Rally of New Zealand for 30 years.

Paddon will attend various activities planned through the University of Otago, including simulator racing in a heat chamber, consultations on mental skills, nutrition and sponsorship, as well as a strength and conditioning session.

He will be joined in Dunedin by the nine members of the 2011 Motorsport elite academy, including three rally co-drivers and a KartSport competitor.

Motorsport New Zealand president Shayne Harris said the academy, established in 2004, provides an invaluable opportunity to help prepare New Zealand's top race and rally talent for domestic and international competition.
