Netball: Evering confirmed for Tactix squad

Jamaican international Kasey Evering has signed for Canterbury Tactix in next season's trans-Tasman netball league.

The Tactix have secured nine of 12 players on their roster, with the remaining three delayed by the earthquake earlier this month.

Evering was part of the Jamaican team which played two tests against England in Jamaica earlier this month: the home team lost the first 53-42 but took the second 53-42.

Evering, who will play for Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games early next month, has been named at goal keep.

The Tactix had already named former New Zealand shooter Donna Wilkins to spearhead their attack at the other end of the court.

Other members of the Tactix squad include Silver Ferns' squad members Anna Thompson and Charlotte Kight, last year's captain Maree Bowden, mid courter Phillipa Finch and talented young goal shoot Ellen Halpenny.

Defender Jo Trip and exciting American-born Auckland midcourter Finau Pulu are the other signings to date.

Tactix chairman Kevin Eder said that while the earthquake had held up the signing of the last three players, he was delighted with the blend of experience and youth.

"Donna Wilkins' attributes are well known and all the reports we have received from Jamaica about Kasey Evering are extremely encouraging. She is very experienced and has a reputation of being `the enforcer' on the court," he said.

Tactix coach Helen Mahon-Stroud said she was delighted to have so many experienced players committed to the team for the 2011 season.

"These girls work so well together on and off the court - they're all team players. They're dedicated, train hard and always try 100 per cent."
