You will have to be in quick after only 150 tickets remained yesterday for their clash against the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic this afternoon.
It could be the first time the Steel have sold out a game at the Edgar Centre, where they are only allocated one game during the ANZ Premiership season.
It is a positive boost for the Steel’s fan base in the city, after producing a strong season where they are on a five-game winning streak.
‘‘It would be a really cool feeling,’’ coach Wendy Frew said of a possible sellout.
‘‘I think that’s a credit to everyone involved — not just the players — the management, but also the franchise.
‘‘We’re lucky we have so many loyal supporters and we’re really excited to play in Dunedin.
‘‘It’s been really good being up here the last few days, getting in the community.
‘‘The girls are really buzzing — we’re going to make sure we put on a really good performance to the loyal fans that turn up.’’
The Steel sit second on the ANZ Premiership table with five wins and one loss, and are on their longest winning streak since 2021.
They have only lost one quarter in their past four games, having drawn five, and really are humming quite nicely.
Aliyah Dunn is the most accurate shooter in the league, having only missed eight goals, and Serina Daunakamakama sits third for centre pass receives (111) — Georgia Heffernan is fourth (102) — and is third-equal with captain Kimiora Poi for feeds (198).
Carys Stythe is second for defensive rebounds (13) and deflections (34) and eighth-equal for intercepts (7).
Frew is pleased with how her side is tracking, but felt they still had some steps to achieve to improve across the court.
That should be a scary thought for other teams.
They meet the Magic this afternoon, who are yet to pick up a win or any points this season after six games.
They are out of playoff contention and are facing their first winless season — the Steel were winless in 2023, but collected four bonus points.
But that does not mean the Steel are taking them lightly.
‘‘These sort of games can be quite dangerous ... they’ve got nothing to lose,’’ Frew said.
‘‘We’ll have to be really focused this weekend and know that they’re going to throw everything at us.
‘‘They have some really good players and probably, as yet, haven’t gelled to their full potential.
‘‘We still have taken this week really seriously, making sure we’ve ticked all our boxes, doing all those little one-percenters and really focused into this game.’’
The Magic came out strongly in the opening quarter and shut down the Steel’s first-phase options during their 61-48 loss two weeks ago.
‘‘We’ve certainly talked about that this week.
‘‘We’ve made sure we’ve [made] some subtle changes to our gameplay to ensure that we’re a little different and not predictable.’’
The Southern Blast meet Matarau in their National Netball League game as the curtain-raiser for the Steel’s game this afternoon.
The Mainland Tactix, who sit top of the table, are away to the Northern Stars tonight, while the Northern Mystics host the Central Pulse tomorrow.
