Netball: Favoured sides dominant

The Dunedin premier competition began on Saturday at the Edgar Centre with predictable results, as the top teams blew off the cobwebs against lesser opponents.

University-Albion A posted the largest score, beating Phys Ed B 69-30.

Former Silver Ferns goal attack Jodi Brown, who recently played a game for the Southern Steel against the Fever in Perth, showed her superior court skills and nearly flawless shooting skills when she shot 43 from 44 attempts, rebounding her only miss.

A clearly superior Uni-Albion A comfortably won every quarter: 20-10, 14-9, 16-6 and 19-5.

Southern A also tried to flex its muscle against College A. However, a wily College team kept Southern in check for most of the game and must feel a little disappointed it did not stay within the five-goal margin needed to secure a valuable point from the 56-49 loss.

Finally, Phys Ed A made a great start to its season, beating Southern B 63-39.

Phys Ed A took control of the match in the second quarter, winning it 21-11 to take a 10-goal lead into halftime. The new-look team then built on the margin in the second half.
