The 1.98m Jamaican has re-signed with the Steel for two more seasons, ensuring the Steel has arguably the most dangerous player in the competition on its roster.
Fowler-Reid, who joined the Steel in 2013, put pen to paper yesterday, just a day before flying home to Jamaica to prepare for the World Cup in Sydney in August.
With three years in the Steel environment under her belt, Fowler-Reid said as long as she was going to play in the ANZ Championship, she wanted it to be with the Steel.
''It's just the environment the Steel provide me with,'' she said.
''It goes hand in hand with success when you have players who not only know themselves but know each other and respect each other. That camaraderie within the team and how we are so honest with each other, that makes it a lot easier.''
The past year was also easier for Fowler-Reid after her family moved to Invercargill to be with her, something they will do once more when she returns.
Fowler-Reid is the franchise's leading scorer (1804), having surpassed former Steel shooter Daneka Wipiiti (1247) early in the season.
She was named the New Zealand conference MVP last week, and Steel chief executive Lana Winders told the Otago Daily Times two weeks ago re-signing Fowler-Reid was her top priority.
While Fowler-Reid's shooting percentage slipped from 93% the past two years to 87% this season, her ability to soar above defenders and pluck passes out of nowhere makes it near impossible for opposing teams to defend her.
She also holds the competition record for most goals scored in a game (65 twice), and has scored at least 40 goals a whopping 28 times since joining the Steel.
Fowler-Reid said signing on for two more years was an easy decision, and she was confident the team would flourish if the core of this year's roster stayed on next year.
''We are more than on the cusp,'' she said.
''The players recruited for this year have been amazing. We have made a mark and I'm sure next year we won't be the underdog again because we have what it takes to win.''
Winders said securing Fowler-Reid's signature was integral to the Steel's 2016 campaign.
''Jhaniele plays a pivotal role in our path to success and we are thrilled to have her continue on this journey with us,'' she said.
''The international experience she brings and her input this season has been so important in terms of developing our young team.''
Fowler-Reid is the only player signed on for next year, but Winders is working hard to retain the core of this year's team before other teams can approach Steel players.
That window will open on June 21 or June 22, two weeks after the ANZ Championship final, but it is hoped other Steel players will follow Fowler-Reid's lead and sign on before then.
