A second training camp will this weekend give the Southern Steel another chance to blow out the cobwebs before a major pre-season tournament in Queenstown next month.
The netballers are gathering in Invercargill, with coach Robyn Broughton using the camp to emphasise skills and ball work.
"It will be everything netball-oriented.
''It's suddenly netball season again," Broughton said.
"The girls have been training very hard.
''Now it's time to bring it all together and sharpen those skills.
''The focus will be on time together and setting the standards for the season ahead."
All 12 Steel players will be at the camp, including new recruits Sheryl Scanlan, Adine Wilson, Donna Wilkins and Australian Leah Shoard.
For Wilson and Wilkins, it is familiar territory.
The pair were coached by Broughton before taking time out to start their respective families, with Wilkins also tackling the role of Steel's assistant coach last year.
"It's been a long time since I've been in netball mode," Wilson said.
"I'm really looking forward to it and it will be great for all of us to be together as a team for the first time."
Mother to 9-month-old Harper, the former Silver Ferns captain was satisfied with her progress to date but eager to polish specific skills.
"It's hard to get those ball skills down when you're out on the farm training and pushing a pram as well," Wilson said.
"It will be great to get into camp and step up the intensity."
The camp will help prepare the Steel for a pre-season tournament in Queenstown from February 20-22.
The Steel will open the three-day tournament with a game against the New South Wales Swifts, the winners of the inaugural ANZ Championship, and will also have games against two New Zealand sides, the Northern Mystics and the Canterbury Tactix, as well as the Australian Institute of Sport.
