Both sides remain unbeaten in the premier A competition after a doubleheader round at the Edgar Centre.
Uni Albion A, who are the defending champions, pumped South Pac Titans Titi 69-33 and beat Titans Taiko 82-22, while College A snuck past Physed A 58-55 and had a strong 50-36 win against the Southern Magpies.
They both sit at the top of the table with 16 points.
After a good win last week, Columba College continued their momentum to beat Uni Albion B 60-44 on Saturday.
Columba jumped out to an 13-3 lead in the opening 10 minutes and pushed out to a 20-9 lead at the first break. They made it tough for Uni Albion to punch through and find flow on attack, showing as a secondary school side they deserve their place in the top grade after being promoted this year.
Lucy Earl was a strong target for Columba at the back.
She set up early and held nice space to give herself room on the baseline.
Her feeders found nice space for themselves in the pockets and hit the circle edge to put the ball up and over to Earl.
Ella Colquhoun was never afraid to go to the post herself, slotting some lovely mid-range goals for her team.
They forged ahead to lead 35-19 at halftime.
Uni Albion produced a better third quarter, winning the period 14-11, but could not eat away enough at Columba’s early lead.
Kiana Brown — who was recently named in the New Zealand secondary school team — picked up plenty of ball at goal defence and helped shut down the flow to Uni Albion shooters to secure the strong win.
Physed bounced back to beat Columba 54-40 yesterday, while Titans Titi came back from being two goals down at the third quarter to force a 50-50 draw against Uni Albion B, and Southern beat Titans Taiko 62-45.
