She was a member of the New Zealand women's team that won the division four world title in Iceland last month.
"It was amazing," Patchett said.
"It was a great feeling to be world champion. I was speechless at the end of the last game."
Patchett (16), the third-youngest member of the unbeaten New Zealand team in Reykjavik, was in the starting line-up for each game.
She started playing the sport six years ago.
"A friend took me down to the rink," Patchett said. "I went down for novelty. I wanted to try something different and unusual. I have played ever since."
Patchett, a natural on ice, quickly mastered her new sport.
"I like the physical nature and speed of the game," she said.
"You have to think fast. It's an instinctive sport. You have to react quickly under pressure."
Patchett won her first New Zealand title in Christchurch in the Otago senior women's team in 2008. She was the second-highest goal-scorer at the tournament.
Last year, she was one of three New Zealand women invited to attend an 11-day international development camp in Finland.
"I found out where I stood in world ranks for my age," Patchett said. "It lifted my game and I learned to think strategically."
The players at the camp were drilled daily on proper skating techniques and Patchett increased her skill base.
The other Otago members of the New Zealand ice hockey team were Olivia MacDonald (Dunedin), Ali Macharg (Wakatipu High School) and Anna Goulding (Gore).
At the world championships in Reykjavik, New Zealand beat South Korea 3-1, Iceland 3-1, Romania 7-2 and South Africa 7-2.
