Snowboarding: Nordic competitors clean up at Burton High Fives

Nordic snowboarders cleaned up at the first annual Burton High Fives slopestyle finals at Wanaka's Snow Park yesterday.

Enni Rukajrvi, of Finland, won the women's final ahead of Wanaka-based Christy Prior and Ty Walker, from the United States.

Rukajrvi (22) was a gold medallist at the 2011 FIS snowboarding world championships and has previously won the world snowboard tour.

Her favorite trick is a "backside 540 indy".

Prior, from Kaukapakapa, won the "Billabong Bro Down" world snowboard tour event at Snow Park earlier this month.

She is in her second year of international competition and was a wildcard entry for the High Fives.

Mikkel Bang (22), of Norway, won the men's final ahead of Sebastien Toutant, of Canada, and Stale Sandbech, of Norway.

The top New Zealander was Stef Zeestraten in 15th.

In 2010, Bang was third in the Burton New Zealand open snowboarding championships.

The High Fives, involving 60 of the world's best snowboarders and with $80,000 of prizes, ends today with the halfpipe finals.
