Lyall Scott produced the individual performance of the summer to help Cardinals to a morale-boosting win at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Scott hit two home runs - one a grand slam - and added a triple to guide his side to a 17-10 win over Dodgers.

In an entertaining, almost bizarre finish, Cardinals scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the result.

Scott hit a solo homer in the third and added his two-run triple in the fourth, but Jamie Robinson responded with a dinger for Dodgers, and when Cam Watts also went long in the top of the sixth, Dodgers held a 10-8 lead.

That merely inspired Cardinals to explode into action, led by Scott's grand slam and a two-run Stephen Hill double.

Saints held their nerve to grab two key one-run wins. Powered by in-form batter Tim Howard, Saints withstood a late rally to beat Cardinals 9-8, and came from behind to pip Ellis Park 8-7.

There was a sense the game could finish early when Saints scored five runs in the second inning against Cardinals. Lachlan Brensell had a two-run double and then scored on a error, before Howard launched one over the fence with Michael Crowley on the bags.

Cardinals grabbed a consolation run but Brensell restored the buffer with another run-scoring double.

Trailing 6-1 at the bottom of the fifth, Cardinals needed some offence. Doug Hill provided an early spark with a solo homer, and Cardinals grabbed two runs on walks in the sixth.

Saints added three more runs in the seventh but had no chance to relax with a 9-4 lead. Corey Parker singled in a run, then Scott waited for the ball he wanted before belting a three-run homer - his third of the day - to reduce the deficit to one. It was a spirited finish but Saints were able to get the two final outs.

Ellis Park took a 5-3 lead against Saints into the middle of the third. Krizevac Tuitea provided the early highlight with a two-out, three-run homer.

Saints chipped away, with Howard batting Crowley home, and then took the lead with a two-run Travis McIntosh homer.

It was 7-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth when Kyle O'Neill scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Ellis Park rebounded with a thumping 13-3 win over Dodgers in the late round. The 13-hit performance included a Ryan Williams home run and a two-run Will Meiklejohn triple.
