Speedway: Scott claims second South Island title

Saving his fastest run for when it counted, Jason Scott, of Queenstown, blitzed the field to take his second consecutive South Island Sprintcar title on Saturday night.

Competing against 13 other drivers at Central Motor Speedway in Cromwell, including top contender Karen Forsey who is usually contracted to Western Springs Speedway, he used the three heats to fine-tune his 900hp sprint car.

"We were just working on getting a good set-up for that final race."

Sitting on a Triple X chassis and powered by a 410 Chev engine that Scott brought back after a season competing in the United States last year, his car weighs only about 600kg.

Starting from the favoured No 2 position on the grid, he shot out to a lead he never relinquished - despite several safety restarts - in the 25-lap feature race. Fellow Cromwell-contracted driver, Corey Price, of Winton, was second and Kyle Shearing, of Invercargill, was third.
